Phase 5 - Line weight and colour palette of characters

At this stage of the development for the characters, it is time to shift all the design and gestures on to Photoshop to be digitally painted, as well as exploring colour palettes for each characters and refining/tweaking some of the details further. The line weight of the characters are critical to understand the ‘weight’ of the gestures, such as lifting, crouching, climbing or running, in order to anatomically draw the proportions correctly in perspective so it won’t look out of place.

Lighting experiment/exercise to explore how lighting works around the character.

Character 2 colour palette.

Character 3 Fox Design and colour palette. Design may slightly change before finalisation, such as the tails and body shape.

Character 4 Spirit/Blue flame character. Design is likely finished as the character lacks the complexity and detail compared to the other 3.

These designs are just prototypes and some things may change throughout the course of the development. I would need to do some illustrations of the characters to see my strengths and weaknesses in character drawings which I would evaluate and critically reflect on to see if I am capable of drawing them. If not, then I would need to redesign the characters to the point where I would have to exaggerate their gestures, features and overall looks that would make it easier for me to draw. As of now, I will continue as it is (in terms of character drawings) and if there is a problem, I will assess my skills in character illustrations and would have to rethink my strategy on how I draw them.
